Advanced Resuscitation Certificate
Pre-requisites
Be a minimum of 15 years of age on the date of examination.
Areas Covered
Surf Life Saving Manual:
Basic Resuscitation (Unit 5)
Resuscitation (Unit 6)
Advanced Resuscitation (Unit 7) including use of Oxygen equipment.
Perform basic resuscitation techniques.
Assessment
Satisfy the majority of the Examiners in respect to their competence in all learning outcomes by -
- Written/oral examination.
- Basic Skill Performance.
- Rescue Scenario simulation.For this award to remain current candidates are required to perform an annual proficiency test.
Oropharyngeal Airways (Separate Manual)
Perform a priority injury management assessment of a patient.
Place a patient in recovery position.
Perform a patient rollover.
Open airway by attaining a backward head tilt.
Perform 2 full breaths in at least 2 seconds.
Detail rescue breathing technique for adult, child, infant.
Perform mouth to mouth/nose/mask expired air resuscitation technique/s.
Perform resuscitation (CPR) techniques.
Detail the systems of the body, specifically; musculo-skeletal, circulatory, respiratory, nervous.
Demonstrate a knowledge of when to commence CPR, and flow chart procedures for CPR.
Detail CPR rate for adult, child, infant.
Perform 1 and 2 person CPR techniques.
Perform oxygen aided resuscitation technique.
Demonstrate and describe patient management procedures after CPR.
Demonstrate oxygen aided resuscitation.
Identify location and safety of oxygen resuscitation equipment.
Identify and assess patients requiring oxygen therapy.
Perform oxygen therapy techniques.
Demonstrate a knowledge of airbag resuscitator units components and practical assessments.
List basic safety checks of airbag unit.
Demonstrate a knowledge of component use.
Demonstrate practical procedural set up of airbag resuscitator unit.
Demonstrate use of airbag in simulated scenario.
Discuss roles of CPR and Airbag operators in emergency procedures.
Demonstrate appropriate communication skills with other operators.
Demonstrate correct application and management of Airbag on patient.
Describe appropriate management procedures to be undertaken under various circumstances e.g.; vomiting.
Describe post use procedures pertaining to airbag operations.
Demonstrate a theoretical and practical knowledge of the Oropharyngeal Airways and their use.
Have a detailed knowledge of the issues relating to the use of oropharyngeal airways.
Demonstrate competency in the ability to insert an oropharyngeal airway on an unconscious victim using the airway rotation method.
