Aussies 2010
A large contingent of members have traveled to Kurrawa for the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships including competitors, officials, supporters and family. The Aussies have returned to Kurrawa after a three year stint at Scarboro Beach in WA. The championships go from Tuesday March 16 through to Sunday March 21, and Collaroy will be looking for some big performances from their competitors.
During the Aussies, we'll have our intrepid and fearless reporters (KC & the Doc) trawling the beach, the surf and other venues and recording their observations on this page via photographs and maybe some textual ramblings. The Aussies will be documented on a daily basis, although it may be delayed depending on extraneous conditions (e.g. debriefing sessions at the end of the day, etc.)
In other areas we had competitors competing in swim, ski and rescue tube, as well as doing some last minute refinement to techniques, or just winding down.

The competition was watched by numerous supporters:

And of course there are our officials, without whom the Aussies wouldn't happen:

Tuesday evening saw many members getting together at Kurrawa surf club to reflect on the day's events and celebrate the various medals won on the day.

Many members were there to support our masters competitors and cheer them on.
In addition, we had various members providing the essential officiating, first aid, powercraft and water safety duties at the Championships.

And of course the day wouldn't be complete without the ladies being presented with their gold medals by our very own Chris Montgomery

And finally, some relaxation.

Tuesday March 16
First day of the Masters competition with very large surfing conditions. That didn't stop our competitors, who competed in everything from swim, ski, tube rescue, beach sprint, beach relay, etc. with some great results. Our ladies beach relay team (below) won gold in their age group (we can't reveal which age group), except when this photo was taken they didn't actually know they'd won.In other areas we had competitors competing in swim, ski and rescue tube, as well as doing some last minute refinement to techniques, or just winding down.
