Beach
Special thanks first and foremost to Bob Langbein and Chris Montgomery for their continued support they show not only to our beach competitors, but to Surf Life Saving and the Club in general. They are both highly respected members of the Club and a credit to Collaroy. Thank you also to Michael Kember for the great work he is doing with the Nippers, ensuring their transition into the Seniors will be a smooth one.
Our weekly training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays continue to attract healthy numbers with most days requiring Bob, Chris and myself to handle the group. We also had a number of competitors from other clubs come to weekly training sessions which is great to see.
This year our Open Men’s sprinters again took to the sand fit and as keen as ever with Michael Kember leading the way with a 2ndin the sprint at Branch, and a magnificent run at State to take out 1stplace, and qualifying for the final at Aussies .Elliot Marynissen not far behind with a 3rdat Branch, 4that State and a 5thplace at Aussies.
Mikeand Elliot teamed up with Ross Langbein and Baden Donegal to get 2ndat Branch, 1stat State and 2ndat the Aussies. The final at the Australian Titles was a fantastic spectacle…perfect changes by them all, and only just beaten by Kurrawa. Bob certainly had them all peaking at the right time. Only a matter of time boys for that ‘Aussie Gold’. Mark Trbojevic and Chris Tassone should also be congratulated for their efforts throughout the season, always giving 100%.
We had Baden Donegal in the Under 19s re-join the club after a spell. He quickly gained a spot in the Open Relay team, while achieving 2ndplace at State in the flags. Great to have you backBaden.
Our Under 19 girls consisted of Katie Williams, Aimee Gundry, Eleanor Lamb and Jess Redden who came over from Queenscliff. The girls had a great year winning Branch, State and the Australian Gold beach relay. A superb effort by Eleanor at Aussies who had been very sick a fortnight before, felt ‘ordinary’ on the day of the relay final…let’s just say that Eleanor had the ‘run of her life’ in the final giving the baton to Katie in 4thplace(3 places better than the heat). This gave the team the lift they needed to bring it home. Chris had these girls ‘primed’ for this event. Huge thanks to ‘Gomma’. He has done such a great job with the girls…to see the girls and Chris after that relay run said it all.
Amy also ran 3rdat Branch. Jess ran 2ndat Branch and 3rdat State.
Katie’s first year in the Under 19s was a beauty. She went through undefeated in all her events. Branch, State and Aussies, she claimed 1stplace in both flags and sprint. She was also awarded Female Champion Competitor of the Aussies for 2011. Congratulations Katie, the Club and your team mates are all so very proud of you. Again, a huge thanks to Chris as he continues to guide and mentor Katie with her success on the beach.
Our 17 girls consisting of Tori Groom, Jemma Gledhill and Matilda Lamb had a short lived season due to a lack of required patrol hours. In saying that Tori claimed 1stin Branch for flags, with Matilda coming in at 4thplace. Look forward to seeing you all back next season girls, and on patrol.
Our Under 15s showed tremendous enthusiasm and some great results as first year out of ‘nippers’.
The boys Jesse Bowyer, Josh Oates, Josh Martyn and Kai Glennie achieved 1stplace in the Branch relay.
Jesse ran 2ndand Josh ran 3rdat Branch.
Under 15 girls, Riley Cross, Jasmine Bathie, Millie Suters, and Annabelle Loone all participated at Branch coming in at 2nd place in the relay… great effort.
Riley ran 3rdin the sprint also.
Well done guys. You all stepped up well in your first year as ‘Seniors”
Again thanks ToMikeKember for all his efforts with this great group of young adults.
Last but not least our Masters’ competitors seem to get stronger every year with our best results yet.MikeTomblin achieved 1stplace in flags at Branch and State, and 6that Aussies, 2ndin sprint at State, and 6that Aussies…well done Mick. The ‘white knight’ Kerry Armstrong again trained as hard as anyone, with great results…Branch 2ndflags, 1stsprint, State 1stflags, 2ndin sprint, and Aussies 3rdsprint,3rdflags. Her training partner Louise Smallwood also showed that ‘hard work pays off’….
Branch… 1km run/flags/sprint..1st State1km run /flags/sprint..1st Aussies..1km run/sprint..1st flags 2nd
It was great to see Linda McDowell back this year, showing a strong performance by taking out the Branch Title in the 2km run. Fiona Hall and Phillipa Wight were newcomers to the masters this year, and certainly enjoyed themselves.
Louise, Kerry, Linda and Phillipa ran 3rdin the Women’s Branch relay, and 2ndat State.
The girls won a bronze medal at Aussies as well. A great result by all. A special mention to Kerry Mac who showed great commitment to her personal training as well…well done Kerry, and I look forward to training with you all next season.
A final congratulations to Elliot and Katie for qualifying in the Sydney Northern Beaches Interbranch Team, both placing in their respective events.
Well done to you all, and I look forward to my new role as Beach Captain.
