Board Riding Season 05-06
Two members competed this season in local carnivals, Branch, State and Aussies. Based on the success of this season it is hoped that more members from all age groups will compete and develop this section of the club and enjoy individual as well as team success.
Jane Ensor and Mark Broome both excelled at Branch with Jane winning Gold in the Open Women’s Malibu, the Open Women’s Short Board and Silver in the Under 17 Short Board.
At State, Jane was successful in winning Gold in the Under 17 Short Board, Silver in the Open Women’s Short Board and Bronze in the Open Women’s Malibu.
Aussies highlighted Jane’s talent in board riding seeing her win Gold in the Open Women’s Malibu and Silver in the Under 17 Short Board. Not bad considering Jane is still only 15 years of age. To win the Gold Jane had to win four rounds as well as defeat the champion of the past two years from Kurrawa. A great effort.
Mark competes in the largest and most competitive age group being the Under 15. After four rounds of gruelling and very aggressive surfing he finished with the Gold medal at the Branch Titles.
After disappointment at State, Mark displayed yet again, his aggressive style to take on the near 50 competitors in his age group at Aussies, defeating the current NSW state champion and other experienced sponsored surfers.
His tenacity saw him, after six qualifying rounds, progress into the top four final. After an extremely close encounter a result was too close to call but fortune was not on his side and a medal was not to be. These members have put Collaroy right up there in the board riding area of Surf Life Saving and we look forward to a lot of fun and more success next year with greater numbers pursuing this discipline.
