Proficiencies & Education
PROFICIENCIES 2009/10
All active patrol members and all competitors must be proficient for their Bronze or SRC award by December 31st. To maintain your proficiency you must complete all of the following:
- Run-swim-run (200-200-200 in 8 minutes for Bronze, 100-100-100 in 5 minutes for SRC).
- Demonstrate knowledge of signals.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the new resuscitation techniques.
- Perform a rescue in the surf either with a rescue tube or a board.
This year we will be conducting proficiency weekends where they all start at 11am for the Bronze/SRC award holders (i.e. after nippers has finished on Sunday). The other awards that need proficiency (ARC, Spinal Defib, etc.) will be on those same weekends but will start after the Bronze / SRC proficiencies are finished. IRB proficiencies (both Driver & Crew) will be on those Sundays too. In addition, this season we'll be taking everyone through a defibrillation awareness instruction (around 20 minutes).
If you gained your award after June 30 2009 then you are already proficient for this season. If you gained your award before this date (SRC included), then you must attend one of the proficiency weekends.
The Bronze/SRC award holders proficiency could take up to 90 minutes, depending on the amount of people present for that session. If there is a large attendance (e.g. 40 people or more) it could take 2 - 3 hours.
Please DO NOT leave your proficiency until the last weekend unless unavoidable as we would like the groups kept to a manageable size and we also do not intend to include any more weekends than listed.
The weekends for proficiencies are as follows:
- October 17 & 18, 2009
- November 21 & 22, 2009
- Dec 5 & 6, 12 & 13, 2009
