Proficiences & Education
PROFICIENCIES
All active patrol members and all competitors must be proficient for their Bronze or SRC award by December 31st. To maintain your proficiency you must complete all of the following:
- Run-swim-run (200-200-200 in 8 minutes for Bronze, 100-100-100 in 5 minutes for SRC).
- Demonstrate knowledge of signals.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the new resuscitation techniques.
- Perform a rescue in the surf either with a rescue tube or a board.
This year we are having proficiency weekends where they all start at 11am for the Bronze/SRC
award holders (i.e. after nippers has finished). The other awards that need proficiency (ARC, Defib, etc.) will be on those same weekends but will start after the Bronze / SRC proficiencies are finished. IRB proficiencies are on those Sundays too.
If you gained your award after June 30 2008 then you are already proficient for this season. If you gained your award before this season (SRC included), then you must attend one of the proficiency weekends.
The Bronze/SRC award holders proficiency could take up to 90 minutes, depending on the amount of people present for that session.
Please DO NOT leave your proficiency until the last weekend unless unavoidable as we would like the groups kept to a manageable size and we also do not intend to include any more weekends than listed.
The weekends of October 11/12, November 8/9, December 13/14, plus October 26 are the only
proficiency weekends. Please respect these dates and be on time to start at 11am on the beach in front of the club. If you wish to get a head start you can go to the following web site link and learn more www.slsa.com.au/default.aspx?s=adminresources&id=343

Courses in general:
If you decide to arrange a course for surf life saving yourself, please email Karla on chiefinstructor@collaroysurfclub.com.au to advise me of it. Therefore when the bill and award comes I will have prior knowledge of it. Also, if I am aware of your course, I can chase it up if the award doesn't arrive.
Gold Medallion Information Session
The information will include awards needed, dates of assessment, fitness requirements and what the assessment day involves. Jonathan Farrell has kindly offered to present this session and I invite ALL members to come along.
