Coogee 2007

Coogee was another early start and again we were one of the first clubs on the beach this shows our unity and focus for the season……

And how do we like our pancakes FLAT.
Coogee didn’t kick up the treacherous shore break it is famous for so to compensate the cans we laid 14kms off shore well when finally laid like most times when we venture over or under the harbour things are a little unorganised and the cans were not laid till 5 before kick off..

The day had a bit of everything 40c in the shade and in a first for the Tuck even a 15 minute lightning break was taken under blue skies...

SPIDERS - With their form running hot at the moment the spiders knew they were in danger of melt down and swiftly gained clearance from the commissioner and the fire truck rolled into town just in case of an emergency and the need of a quick hose down.

Early on it looked like the right decision was made when they won the first race of the day in convincing fashion. The guys are really finding their speed early and keeping the foot down through the entire course. With this acceleration and solid technique they are winning more races than not at the moment and with not too many weeks to go in the season it would appear Boothie is timing their run to the big ones well….

The only blemish on an otherwise good carnival for the spiders was Macca hurting his back in the second round, after stretching, massage and even a shot of Dr Lauchy’s magic potion fresh (from Randwick races) Macca still was not able row the last round of the round robin and with the Garricks stepping up to A’s this week, Tommy forgetting his cossies and Jess Leyton conditioning her hair Mark Broome got the call up and hopped in for a ride.

Broomey took to the spiders rowing like a duck to water and after a quick pep talk from Megg’s he quickly became a cog in the Spiders machine. His only mistake was forgetting to tighten the harness and he almost got thrown out at the cans but Simon took a super catch in the deep to save him.

Macca should watch his seat the last time he couldn’t finish a carnival one of the girls filled in and they made the final….

Broomey’s ability to slide into the spiders technique is a testament to the way Gav is coaching the juniors and all the boys should be proud of his effort and take some pride knowing that if need any of them could fill in for any crew in the club.

Working on technique is something all the sweeps have been working on this season and this was a great sign of the progress made and it’s importance of all crews in the club rowing the same technique.

After a second dose of Dr Lachy’s potion, Macca was back on deck for the semi and final.
With a third shot at the cans in the final Macca sent the Spiders home in the big one out in front.
But the boys were beaten by a whisker when someone grabbed a lucky run and finished a creditable second.

But on a good note Macca won the open sprint while running down the beach trying to avoiding the anti doping testers.

KRAKAZ – The Krakaz were a full unit again with Kinga back from his brothers, sisters, uncle’s cousins, dogs wedding in Tasmania. But with his watch still on Tasmanian time he was abruptly woken from his beauty sleep by Riddo honking on the old car horn out the front. Poor Kinga could not get his bearings back from this and when Walburg came in for their warm up he was off buying banans? FINED.

The Krakaz showed some of their best rowing to date but again consistency is letting them down. When crews get into this frustration situation, infighting and over analysing can occur so guys focus back on the problem that up sets the apple cart in the first place and work hard on it till resolved.

You can match it to the cans with any other crew in the field so focus on the way home and don’t let the concentration slip.

Remember “It’s not rocket science”

GARRICKS – The Garrick’s were still hurting from missing out on Sunday at Manly stepped up training this week. Whalberg entered them into the Open’s as well as colts to help the cause.

With the order of events different to our usual they started their day with their first race in the Open men’s, not to disappoint they open their day with a win in both divisions.

The Garrick’s increased work out of the boat and their determination showed all day when they were only beaten by 4 crews (3 of those in the open division of racing) in 6 round robin races they raced.

But the most impressive thing through the day was the way they focused on their weaknesses by the end of the day had ticked two of these off the list.

For the record the Garrick’s made the open boat semi finals and hit the cans second but relaxed on the way home to concentrate on the colt final.

The colt final was their 9th race of the day and even after getting a bad one from the starter they were last off the beach they didn’t panic and slotted back into their rhythm with long & strong rowing. When they hit the chop they held their length and passed through all the other crews to turn 2nd.
Their row home showed that the Garrick’s are more focused then ever powering to the line to record their first carnival win

Well done boys hopefully the first on many.

The juniors were a bit out of sorts early and looked nervous as this was the day they were to get their new name. If you think the boys were nervous you should have seen Gav. So off his game he almost ran over someone in the car park before the boat was even on the back of his car.
Who walks through the car park at 5.30 anyway, lucky Boothie and Ando were they to offer the poor guy some friendly advice…

JUNIORS - As you may have read in the last addition of tuck’s tales voting for the boys new name went on line and like a Fijian referendum unpredicted popularity saw the website crash and voting suspended.

It didn’t take long for the Junior’s to take matters into their own hands and created themselves an opportunity to be given a name the old fashioned way.

Now many crews have had many different pre race superstitions’ but the juniors have top them all with their trip to McDonalds for a quick bite of Happy Meals and thick shakes between races. And so the JUNIOR BURGERS were born. To top it all off they forgot to get Gav something…..

On the water the JUNIOR BURGERS continue to improve. Now they are gaining experience it is time to work on things…

The boat is driven through the water via the oars, so the longer this drive the further the boat will travel each stroke. The JUNIOR BURGERS need to lengthen out their finish by laying the bodies back at the finish and making sure they bring the handle to their chests not their chest to the handles. With increased length the boys will be able handle the chop alot better and will see themselves passing crews they haven’t passed before.
Work on this during training and keep up the starts.

After their round robin the boys were unlucky not to crack it for their first final when the toss of the coin or chicken nugget went against them in a count back.

GIGGLES - Continue to be the big improvers in the shed, with a small field of only five they raced every crews in the field three times with the winner being decided by point score. The girls are edging closer and closer to knocking off the top crews in their division, their rowing is improving with every race but they still give too much away on the start and at the cans. There is still plenty of time to work on these before the championships so work hard at training and keep up the work.
The odds are shorting so get your money on the Giggles now.

The banana bread and conditioner must have worked as the giggles finished a fine second and in the traditional carnivals remember anything can happen in the final, the hard part is making it there.

The turn out at the Coogee pub was great everyone in uniform again. The team work is starting to raise a few eyebrows on the beach and with the way the boats were put away and tent downed this was another example of how well our team is working. This was always the main focus for us this year and at the pride in the red cap at the moment is at a high with the team work on the beach and the results in the boats……

The Spiders have obviously been working hard during the week as in a moment of weakness they asked Riddo to tow their boat to Coogee for them…..
Have you seen his driving, he IS banned from Coffs International Raceway????
ITW had to finish the trip after Riddo took out a chicken at a crossing.

The club received a thank you card during the week sent to a Mr W. Hosking for his generous support and donation to the British Back packers Convention at the Coogee Bay Hotel on Saturday. But green peace are still looking of the moths.

Has any seen the most beautiful girlIN THE WORLD… please tell her Willo is looking for her he needs her help to get his foot out of his mouth?

Police have called the tuck and wanted him to pass on a warning to the team to keep your vehicle locked at all times. In a spate of incidents lately one boaties car was vandalised and another, the victim of an attempted car jacking…. Lucky the perpetrator had not driven manual before.

Finally on a better note the Tuck has heard the Commissioner is looking to hand out the commissioner’s medal for bravery to Platoon B from an undisclosed fire station for their efforts whilst on duty on Saturday. They responded to many call outs to many preventative actions they clocked on at 5.30am and were still going strong 15 hours later………nothing was too much trouble for them and when the smoke settled… wow… brave indeed!!!

No carnival next week- Boothie is off doing high altitude training….Riddo has a job interview with the Bear, Kinga is tinting his hair, Gav’s buying so super glue, the giggles are on patrol

And Hosking is doing 1,000,000,000 sit ups.

Riddo has been copping it from the tuck lately…. well it is so easy.

But in all fairness we should give him some advice as his marriage is pending and the trip to England is too far for a lot of us to make and be their for him on this big day..

The following is a recording of actual events of what actually happened to one of the Queensie good fellows after he got married….not even the names have been changed.
Crazy Dave and his princess had only been married for two weeks. Crazy, although very much in love, couldn't wait to go out on the town and party with his cousins.
So, he said to his new wife, "Honey, I'll be right back."
Where are you going, Crazy Wazy?" asked his princess.
"I'm going to the bar, Pretty Face. I'm going to have a beer."
His wife said, "You want a beer, my love?" She opened the door to the refrigerator and showed him 25 different kinds of beer, brands from 12 different countries: Germany, Holland, Japan, India , etc.
Crazy didn't know what to do, and the only thing that he could think of saying was, "Yes, Lollipop...but at the bar...you know...they have frozen glasses... "
He didn't get to finish the sentence, because his wife interrupted him by saying, "You want a frozen glass, Puppy Face?"
She took a huge beer mug out of the freezer, so frozen that she was getting chills just holding it.
Crazy, looking a bit pale, said, "Yes, Tootsie Roll, but at the bar they have those hors d'oeuvres that are really delicious...I won't be long. I'll be right back. I promise. OK?"
"You want hors d'oeuvres, Poochie?" She opened the oven and took out 5 dishes of different hors d'oeuvres: chicken wings, pigs in blankets, mushroom caps, and pork strips.
"But my sweet honey...at the bar....you know there's swearing, dirty words and all that..."
"You want dirty words, Cutie Pie? ........."
LISTEN UP D*CKHEAD! SIT DOWN, SHUT THE F*CK UP, DRINK YOUR DAMN BEER IN YOUR DAMN FROZEN MUG, AND EAT YOUR F*CKIN' HORS D'OEUVRES. BECAUSE YOUR MARRIED ASS ISN'T GOING TO A F*CKIN' BAR! THAT SH*IT IS OVER...GOT IT, AS*HOLE?"
... and, they lived happily ever after.
