Tucks Tales Manly and Freshwater 07
Australia Day LONG Weekend 2007
No rest for the wicked with a full weekend of rowing.
Kicking off with Freshwater on Friday for the traditional Australia Day Carnival.
We welcomed a new crew to the Roy and after a long anticipated wait the Crumpets made their debut.
The Crumpets consitis of a five man team of; Andrew Brown, Elliott Marynissen, Grant Elliott, Jacob Gregory, Mark Broome. Welcome to the team boys boat rowing is a gut wrenching sport where you have to put in to get out and the hope for a bit of luck!!!!
But it is a whole lot of fun and you will make friends you will share many a cold schooner with for many a year. Welcome onboard guys more about you rowing latter.
No need for a vote today, Freshie was glorious about 50 degrees in the shade and a gentle 1foot green wave with out a breath of wind.
Spiders- It was a case of third time lucky for the spiders recording the clubs first win for the season. They hardly put an oar wrong all day and in the big one all the boats drew onto the same wave and it was gun barrel Boothie who left the carnage in his wake to cross the line for the chocolates’
The Tuck was right but the boys didn’t they didn’t muck around only taking a week and a half to do it.
Krakaz- Hot on the heels from their finals appearance at Wanda the Krakaz were keen to keep the momentum going. With a good 1st up row from alley 1 the only thing a miss was Kinga ‘must have been the prawns’ with his run up the dunes for some additional stretching???
Unluckily drawing alley 1 again in the quarters their campaign finished there when 4 into 3 didn’t go on the winning wave.
Garricks- Continuing their good form from Wanda and were impressive through the rounds with a 1st, 2nd Easily qualifying into the final. The guys put together a impressive row turning head to head with Palmy but it is hard work down south at freshie unless a wave comes through and mother nature didn’t provide. A creditable 5th was on order in an impressive field.
Giggles- The girls rowing look the best it has to date. But with the flat conditions they were not able to push home any advantage against some fitter crews. As long as they continue to push them selves out of the boat there speed in the “Drag Racing” conditions will improve. I feel they will enjoy the rougher conditions Perth can throw up.
Crockers- Unfortunately the Crockers blew a heartilage when they peaked at Wanda and will not be joining us again this season.
Crumpets- The debut of the boys has been long and well anticipated but they did not let us down they were gutsy and focused and most importantly really had a go. Boys you are rowing against many crews a lot older and more experienced than yourselves so remember to relax have a go and enjoy yourselves. You might not win any carnivals this year but if you keep up the work you will be bothering the scorers next season that’s for sure. One last thing Crumpets the name is gooooooooooooone.
MANLY 2007
A new day and a new set of challenges the conditions were the same but the field a lot hotter. Manly is a great hit out and judge on how you are travelling for the upcoming championships.
Highlight of the day was the Krakaz going 2/1 up verses the Spiders when Ando left a bear trap on the edge and poor old Boothie walked straight into it…
BUT
Boothie had the last laugh on Sunday when he got the bat phone ready and ordered a double up for the bow of the Krakaz in the Quarters and things are now all tied at 2 all.
This could be the making of a great challenge with odds due out next week for the final result.
The judiciary has had a quick hearing and has decided to charge the Junior Crew for a blatant breach of Bylaw 6.345 Paragraph 12 of the Collaroy Boaties bylaws.
They were not the only ones to find themselves preparing a defence case as the Krakaz also found themselves being sited for breaching Bylaw 1.0 Paragraph 1.6
- Bylaw 1.0 – “Conduct unbecoming a Collaroy Boatie”
Paragraph 1.6.– Crews or rowers who upon getting eliminated from a carnival shall stall on the beach for the rest of that day to assist other crews still competing and the removal of craft & tens from the beach.
Breaches of this bylaw shall be reviewed by the Boaties Judiciary
Punishment – Those found guilty shall be required to carry & remove the tent from the beach for no less than the next two (2) carnivals.
- Bylaw 6.345 Paragraph 12. – “Naming of Boat Crews”
Paragraph 12 – Any crew competing for Collaroy at any carnival shall be given a name under which they shall compete. At no stage shall any crew decide a name for themselves.
Names will be decided via 1 of 2 ways.
i) A committee comprising of no less than 3 rowers from different crews and 2 Sweeps shall meet and decide a new name.
ii) An open court hearing shall be called in the High Court Room (or tent) and nominations shall be called for names. A short list shall be formed and the entire section shall vote. The result will be final.
iii) Challenging a Crew Name
Any competing member of the boat section can protest a crew name. The protest will be heard by the entire section and a vote will be put forward.
If successful an open forum will be held and a short list of names will be formed and then put to a vote.
If the protest is dismissed the challenging member of the section shall be fined under the Collaroy Boaties Bylaws.
Once decided crew shall compete under the new name. The decision will be final.
So in accordance to Bylaw 6.345 Paragraph 12. – “Naming of Boat Crews” (section iii)
The final list for the naming of the Junior Crew is as follows
1) Maggots
2) Tuna’s
3) Bobcats
4) Feather Dusters
Visit the guest book to cast your vote – Voting ends 5.00pm Friday.
Spiders- Hot on the heels of there Freshie win and 1000 schooners old at the Hilton to spiders started off where they left behind win a couple of wins through the round robin. They have hit their straps and powered into the final. But too many wheet bix after his semi and Simon only had taken 8 strokes and snapped his oar clean in half….. The boys should be happy with making both finals they are definitely on the pace.
Krakaz- (plus Hops) Enjoyed the early conditions and had a good first up row. They were didn’t follow up well in their second round and put themselves under pressure to qualify. Quick thinking Ando seized the chance and as said before laid a trap and sent the Krakaz into the knock out round with a solid second.
They handled the gust conditions well and pushed into the second day. But their campaign was quick to end here on the first race of the day.
Fully reformed for Coogee with Kinga firing back on his cylinder the boys are pumped ready to go….
Thanks for fill in Hops efforts appreciated, but after his first carnival in a few years the big guy was not looking the best….so we won’t ring again for a while.
Garricks- Have the ability to always start well in their first race but this was the end of their good run. With a couple a below par rows for the Garricks the qualified but drew a hard forth round row.
After rowing into contention they hit some dead water and watched helplessly as two boat went passed on a wave and ended their campaign on day 1.
The boys have vowed to make up for it are have their sights set on Coogee.
Giggles- The girls are improving with every outing. In a field of state titles quality they showed the are right up there when they put together a quality row. They easily qualified through the round robin and only improved on Sunday making the most of all their opportunities and powering in to the final. Not out classed the girls finished with a creditable forth. Definitely on the pace and looking good for the championships.
Juniors- There second outing was a little more challenging than their first with the still southerly pushing up for the afternoon shift. The rowed well for the conditions and if the keep enjoying their rowing will start pushing the more experienced crews. Good effort battening down the hatches guys every thing present and accounted for the morning roll call.
Big thanks too Boothie as well for staying around and helping the guys out.
Big roll out this weekend for Coogee lets keep the team work up and pack out the club bar afterwards for a de-brief session.

Simon is down the Hilton after his Freshie win and meets a gorgeous, ok well nice, girl. They talk, they connect, and they end up leaving together.
They get back to Simon’s place and as he shows her around his apartment. It's clean enough and she likes what she sees. However in his bedroom she notices that one wall is completely filled with soft, sweet, cuddly teddy bears.
There are three shelves in the bedroom, with hundreds and hundreds of cute, cuddly teddy bears, carefully placed in rows covering the entire wall!
Now it was obvious that he had taken quite some time to lovingly arrange them and she was immediately touched by the amount of thought he had put into organising the display.. There were small bears all along the bottom shelf, medium-sized bears on the middle shelf, and huge, enormous bears running all the way along the top shelf. She found it strange for an obviously masculine guy to have such a large a collection of Teddy Bears, but doesn't mention this. Instead she was actually is quite aroused by his sensitive side.
They share a bottle of Rene Pogel and continue talking. After a while she finds herself thinking, "Oh my God! Maybe, this guy could be the one! Maybe he could be the future father my children?!?"
She turns to him and kisses him lightly on the lips. He responds warmly. They continue to kiss and the passion builds. He romantically lifts her in his arms and carries her into his bedroom where they rip off each other's clothes and make hot, steamy love...
She is so overwhelmed that she responds with more passion, more creativity, more heat than she has ever known.
After an intense, explosive night of raw passion with Simon they are lying there together in the afterglow
The girl rolls over, gently strokes his chest and asks coyly, "Well, how was it baby?"
Simon smiles gently at her, strokes her cheek, looks deeply into her eyes lovingly and says.........
"My lady, help yourself to any prize from the middle shelf."
