Whale Beach Nov 11th 06
Division | Crew Name | Result |
| Colts | Garricks | 2nd |
| Reserves | Krakaz | Semi Finals |
The season officially started last Saturday 11th November with the third round of the branch boat series at Whale Beach.
In a huge day for the roy we welcomed five new members to the red cap.
Mark Garrick Anderson, Will Garrick Hosking, Sam Garrick Newson, Lachlan Garrick Rodgers, Matt Garrick Bealy
Joining the Garrick's were the new look Krakaz mading their debut:
Adam 'Kinga' King, Simon 'Needs a nick Name' Hayes, Justin 'Call me what ever' Riddett and Dave 'Will - Willow - Ben Dover' Williams all eager to get there season underway and have a hit out before Coffs at the end of the month.
Ando was trusted with the long oar for the day.
The Krakaz started well, putting themselves with in a nose of the leader at the back of the break in all three rounds. The game plan was to concentrate on technique and working together.
At times when they were able to control their slide and draw long through the water together the boat speed was as good as any other boat racing.
But the boys weren't able to put this together around the entire course consistently. With preparation the guys have had. Their performance through out the day was impressive. An unlucky start saw them get 4th in their semi 'up periscope', the top three in their semi final finished
1,2 and 3 in the big one.
Slow and steady, work the length drawing together, It all starts with the hands away......Round the island boys!
The Krakaz started the season well and are beginning to lay the platform for a good business end of the season but don't loose focus of the big picture and work for it 1 race at time.
The Garricks. Many people didn't believe they exist but Ando was able to trap and capture them releasing them on the poor unexpected public at Whale Beach.
The two surf sessions during the week and some drag racing against the Bungan Girls paid off for the Garricks notching up their first win in there first start. The boys look sharp from the first stroke.
Like the Krakaz technique was the order of the day, when they slowed down and worked long together they were able to put lengths on the others with ease. But the boat speed and length left the boys on the way home with the more experienced surf crews pinning them back.
Don't be concerned boys keep working together and focus on the little things remember hold the length and work the swells together ALL the way home. This will come with every race and session you put in together.
For the records the Garricks recorded two firsts and a second (on the same wave as the winners) during the round robin and second in the big one.
Well done on your first carnival, just ran out of gas in the last one.
But all the pointers are there for a good summer in hand for the Garricks....
How many wheat bix did Riddett eat Saturday morning? What did the tent pole ever do to him? Need to get it fixed before the next carnival so we can have a tent for the boaties and a tent for Will Garricks rello's
Hosking will he be the next leader of Greenpeace or a Japanese Scientist?
Examiner: You will need to organise 3 volunteers to do the spinal board carry
Garrick: Why do we need 3 volunteers?
Examiner: 1 to be a patient and 2 to help you carry them
Garrick: Why do we need the 2 to help carry
Examiner: You wont be able to lift them with just the 3 of you
Garrick: I think you under estimate us!
Champagne stuff from the boys.
Next hit out Coffs, but the Krakaz and Garricks are getting lonely Giggles and Juniors expect to see you at Northy lets see lots of Red caps.....
Tuck....
